{Outfit} My Favorite Top Ever

You've probably seen a few of these photos in my SF recap post that you can read here, but I wanted to formally share with you the details of this outfit. When I was in SF I needed outfits that were cute for photos, but also were comfortable for walking around all day and exploring. On this particular day we ended up hiking around 4 miles, half of which was uphill. I knew for this day I wanted to wear something comfortable and breathable, but not necessarily athleisure. My top is from a local California boutique, but I found a few options that are very similar.

LMU Freshman Dorm Tour

Wow, this is extremely delayed but I figured better late than never. Today I'm sharing my freshman year dorm tour video. If any of you are headed to college in the fall I wanted to share a very realistic freshman dorm room. I've seen so many different dorm tours on blogs and some of the dorms I see are just unreal. Maybe I'm just messy and can't keep a dorm perfectly organized/clean haha. So here's my real life dorm in the works during September. By January things had changed a little bit and my walls were covered in a bit more because at this point in time they were just plain white walls. Anyways, I tried to link everything in the description of the video so you can find it easily if you're looking to snag it for your dorm room or apartment.

Current Wishlist

Current Wishlist

This summer I decided that I am not going to go on any big shopping trips until August. Because I work five days a week and have to wear my camp shirt and "khaki-style shorts" every day I don't really see the point in buying a super cute summer wardrobe. But, before I leave for school in August I most definitely need to go on a major shopping spree for more going out and cute clothes for school. A lot of people at LMU dress up for class, but I am not one of those people. You can always find me wearing running shorts and a big t-shirt or sweatshirt with flip-flops practically every day. Anyways, just because I'm not actually purchasing right now, doesn't mean I haven't found some items that I would love to purchase in the future! Here's what I'm loving right now.\

Dealing With Grief in College

Today's post is definitely more on the personal side, but it's definitely something I wanted to share on the blog. Going to school almost 2,000 miles away from home has been such a great decision in terms of living my dream of living in Los Angeles, however the distance will always be something I struggle with. At LMU a lot of the kids are from around the area, some only an hour or two from LA. Others are from the Bay area which is only a 6 hour drive or an hour flight to get home. For me it's nearly a four hour flight, plus transportation to and from the airport and a two hour time difference, making it usually an all day ordeal to get home. The first semester of college was the longest I had been away from home, three months in total before I went back for Thanksgiving. I had gone to camp and been away from home before, but never for longer than a week. I've never been someone to get crazily homesick, and how could I in my favorite city on the planet, but there were definitely times that I just simply wanted to go home.

I Have Two Outfits

I Have Two Outfits
Shop my outfits below:

In the summer I kid you not I have only two outfits. As a camp counselor now I have to wear khaki shorts (gag) and my camp t-shirt with gym shoes. It's honestly not that bad, but it's really just the shorts that get me. But aside from camp you can constantly find me wearing one of two outfits. Nike shorts and a big t-shirt have always been a go-to. I love feeling super comfortable and being able to move around in the summer heat. Also, get yourself a pair of Rainbow's because they're literally the best shoes ever. I wore these shoes religiously at school because they're super quick to slip on and also are so incredibly comfortable and supportive for a flip flop.

Apartment Inspiration

Living in a dorm last year was honestly really fun, but I'm so excited to finally have much more space next year in an apartment on campus. We don't have official sorority houses, so although I am in a sorority, as sophomores most LMU students try to live in apartments on campus, rather than buy houses in the surrounding areas. It's honestly so nice because the apartment is on campus. Being in a dorm was so convenient because I was so close to everything, but now I don't have to sacrifice that convenience, while still gaining so much extra space.

I'm rooming with my friend Meghan this year, but my old roommate and other friend are also living in my apartment! Our apartment definitely isn't the most spacious place in the world, however we have two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room and a full kitchen. I'm so so thankful to have a kitchen this year because it will make eating healthy so much easier. Not to mention not having to use communal bathrooms ever again (God bless). I'm also glad because the apartment complex I'm living in is pretty much sophomore central -- the ideal place where all the sophomores want to live. So there will definitely not be a shortage of people around us, which I'm super happy about.

3 Blogs to Start Reading

In all honesty, sometimes I'm the worst when it comes to reading other blogs. Sometimes I spend hours on hour scouring the internet for new blogs to read and dig deep into the archives. Recently, I've been resorting into old habits and reading a ton of different blogs. I found some new blogs, and some old blogs, but these are three that you should definitely start reading. Here's a little bit about each and why I love them.

Also, today is my first day on the job as a camp counselor!! I'm excited, but a bit nervous too to say the least. However, I am so excited to finally get in the swing of things and have a real summer schedule. Plus, making some money doesn't hurt either! Wish me luck!!

So Dressed Up Life + Style

Funny story about this blog actually. My senior year of high school I took an AP Computer Science class that was probably the hardest class I've ever taken. I spent almost every lunch period with my teacher trying to learn Java and consistently struggling. This blog is written by his wife and I'm absolutely obsessed. She's a wedding planner in Chicago, but just recently decided to start her own blog. I love reading about her different family trip recaps and seeing all of her adorable outfit posts. Not to mention she has the cutest daughter in the world! You have to check out her post all about rosé and her super cute pink on pink outfit post

The College Prepster

I've been reading Carly's blog for years, but just recently I've gotten back into the swing of reading all her posts. She posts almost every day and her recent posts about her trip to Paris are really good. It's really making me want to travel there even more...Carly just has such a genuine voice and doesn't succumb to the only sponsored post vibes that some bloggers do. I met her in NYC a few years back at the Smart Girls Summit and really could just feel her authentic personality radiating. Also, her dogs are literally the cutest things in the world!

Prep Essentials

Although I definitely don't have the preppiest style anymore (California really changes you) I still love to read Olivia's blog. She's another local Chicago blogger and I just love her style of writing. She shares everything from college tips to life after college, along with fashion, bucket lists, playlists and more! I really like following along with Olivia's blog as she channels through life after college; it's definitely interesting to read! Her tips will hopefully help me in the future after college when I'll most likely live in Chicago!

I'm always looking to read new blogs...what's your favorite blog?

5 Facts About Me

Sorry for the delay on this week's posts. I was out of town for Memorial Day weekend and then was having a ton of issues with Blogger/my internet when I returned!

I feel like when I first started blogging I did posts like this so often. I wanted my readers to "get to know me" so I posted more about me kind of posts like this or this (if you want a chuckle go read them). It's funny though because I legit wrote things like "lives that nautical life" and "my favorite foods are chicken nuggets, fruit snacks and gluten free pasta". I like to think that I have matured a little bit since writing those blogs, but I still think it's fun to share information about myself that you might not know just from reading this blog.

Also, I have to give credit to Fran because I totally copied her on this post idea. I loved reading her post and wanted to try it out on my own! Be sure to read hers because I learned so much about her that I had never known just from reading her blog.
1. No one really calls me Kate

Haha, you're probably like what, why is your blog called A Sprinkle of Kate then? When I initially was born I was named Katelyn with the intention that my name would be shortened to Kate. But, no one really calls me Kate. My dad, a few family members and my brother/his friends call me Kate, but that's pretty much it. My last name is May so most people at school call me Kmay because it's short and easy. It's just funny to me though because when I created A Sprinkle of Kate I was debating if I wanted to go by Kate when I went away to school, but I honestly think if people were only calling me Kate I probably wouldn't even respond or realize that was my name.

2. I love to spend time alone

As much as I love my friends, I absolutely love spending time alone. Just something about me and my computer and my bed is an endless love affair. Going to college has made me much more dependent on people because in high school I had no problem sitting or walking somewhere alone, but in college I don't necessarily like doing that. When I'm with my friends I love to spend time with them, but just something about being alone is super super nice.

3. I absolutely love YouTube

I'd be lying if I said I haven't spent a good portion of my life watching YouTube videos. I'm definitely more into the Vlogger type videos rather than like the beauty gurus, but I just love watching YouTube videos. I'm actually subscribed to over 100 channels and it's kind of ridiculous, but I just love watching different videos for all sorts of reasons; morning routines, workout routines, daily vlogs and meal-prep videos are some of my favorites.

4. I'm 5'9"

Maybe you're able to tell from photos, but I'm actually pretty tall. For the longest time I was a pretty average height, but in eighth grade I sprouted and then continued to grow throughout high school. My height is kind of random though because my Dad is only 6'2" and my mom is somewhere around 5'6". My brother who is three years younger than me is a few inches taller than me, but my sister who is two years older is only like 5'5". I actually like being tall, because I love my long legs. Plus, I can always see at concerts lol.

5.  I type 100 words per minute

I really don't even know how this came to be honestly, but I'm super fast at typing. In middle school we always had to do these typing tests and if you got more than 50 words per minute you didn't have to do the like typing warmup every day, you could just have free time. And at the end of the week we would have a contest where everyone would take a typing test and whoever had the highest score would win a prize. I kid you not every single week I won this challenge because no one's score was nearly as high as mine. Towards the end of the year though I started to just let other people win because I felt bad haha. Typing quickly definitely has its benefits though because I save so much time when writing papers.
